Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We experienced another great month of June on the Albemarle of coastal North Carolina.........Boated 1,151 total sunfish with 1,016 of those being Coppernose gills.....Of those Coppers, 423 were 10" or greater with fish up to 12"........We continue to thrive as it has been 12 years since the last major fish kill resulting from a passing hurricane........I look forward to July as we started last year with Tropical Storm Arthur 4th of July weekend.........Been a great Summer so far......

Appreciate it Gerome........I actually didn't turn on to cataloging the fish I caught until the digital era if you will.......we also lived on Toledo Bend Reservoir for many years in the 80s and 90s and took just a handful of pictures back then which included Night time crappie fishing with creels of more than 200 fish not uncommon including most of my family member's best crappie ever......we took things for granted .....kind of a way of life if you will and we always talk about today's technology and "what if".....as for Coppernose Gills......habitat is clearly the most important factor in an area as vast as the region I fish......It all looks the same but many areas are void of fish and can overwhelm the casual angler.......I river fish more often than anything else and this is different than any lake in America.......the fish adapt better to certain environments and brackish tannic water is right up the Coppernose Bluegill's alley...........more to follow......

That is awesome. Do you have a picture on your page of any of those? I would love to see a picture of one of those. When you concentrate on the Coppernose is there anything different that you look for or do different than that you would do for other types of gills?  The coppernose that I've caught in times past I really couldn't say that I had done anything different - do you find that their habitat is different?

Two Pounds....Four Ounces caught down on Lake Moultrie in South Carolina.........I have topped two pounds also in North Carolina and Virginia........all Coppernose which consumes most of my fishing effort.........I'm proud of the fact that these fish all came from public waters which should be encouraging to all the anglers out there....My hope is people that love to fish bluegill will gain some confidence from our site and understand that the most important factors are learning the water and wetting a line........
