Good question! Maybe something to do with warm water all year around and a lot of shallow with weeds! Fish look healthy to me! Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, and few other fish have red eyes that's not warm water all year around so I don't know!

Interesting. I've never caught red-eyed bluegill in Nebraska, but I've been catching quite a few when I fish down in Texas. Most of those weren't coppernose however. Evidently some kind of regional variation...

I was wondering if it had something to do with the water, or maybe some sort of hybrid gene.

Also do you know if the Coppernose with cross with the Northern Gills?

If so does anyone have a picture of one?

I believe that Coppernose Bluegills have some red eyes while Northern 'gills don't have it. Just my guess because for years that I never see any bluegills have red eyes in midwest ..... only some in Florida!
