Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

October can produce some solid gills for the patient angler on the Albemarle...........this fish took a small ice jig in four feet of water with just a movement indicator on my line.......

Thanks  Adam.......Dick I will get a few reference photos together later this week to show what I like.......the little foam pieces I like are the size of a peanut.....

A bit of yarn tied to the line makes a pretty good indicator, but it's still no match for a free fall with nothing but line and jig in my opinion. Watch for that slight line twitch...

Jeffrey do you have examples of your indicators. Its an interesting subject especially fishing with smaller baits and so many gut hooks.

There stands a chance of gut hooking especially the deeper you fish but this is why I like an indicator rather than a float fishing this time of the year........hard to explain but I've taught several people the art of applying this method and they have really enjoyed it........I've actually put some glow in the dark paint on a few of the micro indicators to fish predawn and after sundown............the indicators I use actually end up drifting under water while the bait is falling to depth.......you're fishing sudden movement so I have few gut hooks this way..........different approach but a lot of fun when the pole loads up with a big gill/fish.......

Jeffrey how is the small bait on the fish swallowing the smaller morsel.

Thanks guys......these bigger gills are starting to transition in our region Carl.........caught several over the weekend at four to six feet deep as they pull out towards the deepest water...............small baits just worked along slowly in areas that produce large numbers of quality fish during the summer...........
