Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

2lb CNBGs are starting to show up all over the lake. I think this is the big pay off for releasing 10s ad 11s. Not bad for a public lake. This hen was caught in 20 FOW.

Think the girls get bigger or are more vulnerable to being caught. Find them feeding more then the males in the deep water staging areas...

I'm no expert Bob, but I did do fish taxidermy for too many years.  All the huge Bluegill I have done were females, at least I think they were because of their small dark gill cover tabs.  It might be the same as Large and Smallmouth Bass, where the females grow larger than the males.  After all, these fish are in the same Sunfish Family.

I think you'll know "the one" to mount 'cause it'll be bigger than your measuring board! And I'm betting you get that 13-incher this season.

Which do you think get the biggest, the males or females?

No worries Bob. Been tempted to get a mount of some of these fish - just can't pull the trigger…. Lot's of these big fish are still young, this hen has 3 or 4 more years of prime time spawning. Not sure if she dropped all her eggs or she was gorging on something. Her belly was full but she has worn off scales there also.
