Thanks John. And yes that was an excellent crappie you got. This is one of only a couple of female p-gills I've caught, so it's hard telling if females tend to be slimmer than males. I would think body shape would be relatively similar for males and females that come from the same body of water. I think the biggest differences between males and females are color and physical characteristics such as larger ear tabs on males as well as males generally having darker or more intense colors than females.

Nice hen Adam! Got a nice Crappie yesterday , which I think you saw ,  on that color tube jig .

Thanks Tony ,I believe you are correct. Nice seed Adam . How about tallness of Girth ? Is that a male indication and slenderness of Girth a female indicator ? Body shape is what I'm wondering about.

John, here's one I caught that I think is a female P-gill. It's lighter in color like Tony mentioned, plus the operculum is smaller.

I consider a generally dark appearance to USUALLY belong to a male, but color is a fairly unreliable indicator on its own. External influences, such as water coloration and time of year, will also affect coloration.

Great looking mutant.

Is the black hue also hinting at Male , pond guys ?

hmmm, "most hybrids are Male "        Distinctive barring , is that a female characteristic? I wouldn't say this fish has "distinctive barring " but barring is noticeable.

Looks like a male to me.
