Thanks for the question Bruce…..Alligators were protected in Louisiana most of my childhood and I loved to go on all the swamp tours that are available……the species recovered to the point that the season opened across the entire state of Louisiana in the late Summer of 1981…this was m senior year in high school and I was finally invited on my first hunt in the wetlands of Lake Maurepas and it was exciting to say the least, numbers were high and they were biting…..it was full of adrenaline moments and some fear…..multiple gators were taken on that day and this began the regulation of gator hunting in Louisiana and now 35,000 individual gators are taken annually during a sixty day season …..I was always busy and trying to win silver dollars at Alligator Gar Rodeos……just a fun place to grow up with all the outdoor possibilities……
Jeff, you ever go alligator hunting?
You just have to be aware of your surroundings, alligators have been protected in South Carolina for many years and finally doing a tag lottery in the last decade…..and they grow big in the coastal rivers and marshes where food is abundant….they are so smart…at this location as soon as you splash they come investigate making it a challenge to crab but I just keep battling them and catching a mess of crabs……..
Holy shit!
Giant alligator found my chicken….danger will rogers…..
