Guitar strings work, but the bending can be tricky. They also rust.
I've always done as LOFR suggests and employ copper. I strip it from lamp cord, cable, or other wire... Whatever is handy. If the individual strands are small, I put two or three in a drill chuck and spin them to make a thicker strand.
Lately, I've been using some thermocouple wire I found in my wire hoard (yep, I stash wire).

Yea John I think the guitar string would work. I'd like to get mt hands on some. I'm gonna ask at the music store what they do with the ones when they restring guitars. I also gonna try the spring from a ball point pen to make some tiny eyes.
