Lot of it is trial and error......if you try soon look for over hanging trees near the shoreline and attempt to collect leaves or pine straw also......the females will plant their egg sacks in the liter and retreat to the grassy areas to feed and find cover..........I've got about 500 to 600 in captivity just waiting on the break out to occur........I will often just sit the net up like this when fishing to make it easy to grab the next one.........great bait that many people have never had the opportunity to try......most people that I have introduced to it become addicted......

Thanks for the info Jeffrey. I haven't tried catching any yet but I can see where it would be a messy undertaking, particularly from a boat. I'm sure we've got plenty of them in the small ponds and marshes around the house here that are ripe for the picking.

Although plentiful in local rivers they are much more difficult to take on a large body of water Bill......I target small ponds and ditches to bound an area.......able to cover the entire pond if you will......I grew up catching them in roadside ditches in the coastal marsh of south Louisiana.......it can be a dirty job to so i like to do it from the bank and not my boat.......

Jeffrey, I've read where you said you harvest your Grass Shrimp from your neighborhood pond. I was wondering if you also ever catch them in the river's you fish, and if so, are they fairly easy to come by?

Neat Jeffrey I could use 100,000 for my pond. I see a lot of fish protein there.

Similar to minnows.....these shrimp have to be aerated to maintain them alive and styrofoam storage helps too.....the warmer it gets I add ice bags to cool the water down which subsequently firms the shrimp up and provides a little better presentation on the hook............
