I agree with that. Don't get any better than a plate of fried perch with some fries, slaw, and off coarse hush puppies.

They also call yellow perch "red fin" down here in Carolina, but we would have to fight for the perch on my boat Dick, they might be the tastiest fish in the water for sure!

I remember them days when I lived in N.C. after getting out of the service. My fishing partner and I, he was an older gentleman use to go out to Lake Normin and crappie fish. The guy was an excellent crappie catching machine. Once and awhile one of us would catch a perch, he called them coontails. He said you don't eat them things up north do you. I said we sure do it is an excellent fish to eat. He said we don't eat them we call them garbage fish so when we got a perch they always were put in my bucket. He has since passed on and missed out on one of the best eaters around. I often think of the great times we had together fishing. He taught me a lot about crappie fishing. His favorite bait was a white 1/32 oz marabou jig that's all he owned and used. He was a true N.C. gentleman and I miss him.

And to put it frankly Jim I was planning on returning to the Deep South when I retired from the Navy, but it just so happened that my last duty station was Norfolk, Virginia. I got down to the Northeast North Carolina rivers a few times and the rest is history! I do feel fortunate to have the access to gills that I do have!
