Thanks Steve......we all want that next big fish but what keeps me excited about fishing here in coastal North Carolina is the abundance of what I consider trophy class gills in public waters........These are most often 10" class gills and longer in the 3/4 to 1 pound class or greater.......As often as I fish it's exciting to know going in that I have a chance to catch a 1 pound gill on any given day and that keeps me hungry.......North Carolina Angler recognition is different for each sunfish species but a Bluegill must weigh a pound or be 11" long which recognizes the abundance of 10" class fish in our waters.......A crappie must be two pounds or 16" long  which are available in all North Carolina lakes and most rivers in the piedmont and coastal plains......

Congrats Jeffrey !!   That is a brute.........The West Virginia fishing regs book has records by length and/or weight. They use a generic "bluegill" listing and don't break it down into species......Current records (both from ponds) are  1986-weight..2.75 lb......1964-length...13.75 in........current catchall for crappie is..1971-- 19.75 in. and 4.05 lb..

Citation sizes are....."sunfish"......10 in and 1 lb.......Crappie........15 in and 1.5 lb.
