Only way to find out if adding beads are  "too much " is to try it .I don't know how far fish will travel to a bait through the ice and I believe Bluegill to be a species that like the least amount of accoutrements and motion but hey ,I aint a fish so I could be absolutely wrong !  Bottom bumper rig fished vertically ,I see why you made the connection to the ice fishing pounder rig .

A spinner would be cool. What about beads that slide up and down and clack together for a little sound. Too much? The bottom bumper rig is fished vertically along the river channel.

I'm thinking of adding a small spinner by the weight to the ponder rig .

Do you drag it for catfish Keith ? Is that the idea , kick up mud and get your bait noticed by a Catfish?

The pounder is similar to a bottom bumping rig we use for catfish just scaled down. I almost wish I lived far enough North I could ice fish. Maybe I'll try it sometime.

Wow I couldn't even imagine where my ice fishing things are, guess I had better look around.

I agree with John, pounding refers to a technique more than a rig. Lots of guys pound the bottom with only the jig, no added weight. I do this also, and I do not add weight while ice fishing.....just a jig.

I guess so Keith but to call it a 'pounder rig ' is more descriptive of how you work the rig . Get that weight pounding  and calling fish in, then dead stick or work subtle movements with the baited lure of choice .
