Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is the dark coloration that most of our large Lake Perris Bluegill have. Kind of bland. Some get even darker than this one. This is why my taxidermy customer wanted his lake record fish painted to look more like the "traditional" Bluegill. By the way, I did not catch this fish, just took the photo.

That's incredible. Looks like the tire reef still hold some heavy fighters like those. Last metering I did, the vegetation was as tall as the water column during the fall season. With the new water level from the rain, looks like these fishes will have a blast going into the shallow for foraging. Still..WOW. Can't wait to hit the water with you and the boys.

No Leo... Tu caught this guy fishing in about 12 FOW on the shoreline edge of the tire reef on a white mini tube jig and cricket.

What a fish and that would be on my wall. I'm guessing that fish to be around two lbs. That's the stuff that dreams are made of right there.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for coppernose, but I think those big males are the fashion models of the bluegill world - the purple on the gill flap, the white-tinged fins, the copper band across the forehead...I like northern-strain too but I personally think big coppernose males are pretty awesome.

This angler had to be happy with his fish and the resulting mount!   Both represent Lake Perris very well......Gives me the fever, too bad it's December in a location with no Hard Water fishing...LOL
