Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I talked recently about using heavier line bluegill fishing in these brackish waters….barnacles are a type of crustacean occurring in over 2,100 different species….in my waters they attach to everything….both manmade and natural….using larger line gives me an opportunity to avoid the break offs to a degree….even 10 to 12 pound test will quickly pop if a fish pulls you in to these….

I like to use spin casting reels so 12 pound test is about all you can do on the freshwater rated reels……when targeting crappie and gills with telescopic I’ll go up to 16 pound test because no reel involved…we were on a dock earlier this month catching fish off a shallow dock, Joe hooks up to a big fish that quickly wraps a piling and the line parts…..even with larger line you’re going to have heartbreak, but you have to fish where the fish are…..hope this helps John
