Do you love big bluegill?
Went by myself ….everyone canceled last night…..so no family memories but anytime I can catch 89 fish by myself…I’m very pleased….

I’m very fortunate that North Carolina stocks them throughout the state and our population continues to grow and increase in overall size….current state record is just under five pounds…..
Hey Bruce thanks for the question……the RedEar Sunfish..a.k.a. Shellcracker, lake runner, chiquapin……has a very limited North American range…….they have been introduced in many places with mixed results…..it’s interesting that the world record for basically the last 50 years has occurred outside of the native range, first in South Carolina back in the eighties and now the largest fish continue to be caught on Lake Havasu in Arizona…they have done better in the milder climates and it’s been a struggle for mortality and growth for areas that routinely remain below freezing for extended periods of time….
