I've caught them there on shrimp too, but the squid lasts a lot longer.

squid works well for lake perch in the great lakes .

Try some cut shrimp, too. Either one also makes a good chum, when minced real fine.

GREAT CATCH!!!! I LIKE SQUID too!!!! Used it in the CHESAPEAK BAY,while fishing The folks we were fishing with started cutting it up and eating it with Crackers!!!! PRETTY GOOD!!!! It was fresh not frozen!!!!!

Actually bought a bag of frozen squid at the Pompano bait shop to use on the pier, but caught nothing.  Went back to sister-in-law's house where we had been catching bluegills on fly's and tried the squid. The fish went nuts, and we even caught some large Mayan Ciclids (3-10lbs) on the same rigs.  Never knew they were there.

Nice! We did the same thing, however, we also created a special sauce of dried shrimp, trout roes-guts-bones, mixed with a bit of chicken blood and have the squid soaked in it. Freeze the concoction up, thaw it overnight before heading out, and a fun day on the water catching everything. The concoction is so nasty that I only use it once in a while when I know I'm heading out during the day while full moon was observed the night before.
