Do you love big bluegill?
Looking forward to a vacation back where I grew up in St. Tammany Parish. Most bluegill fishing for me growing up was in farm ponds and Bayous like this one...It made for a great childhood in the Sportsman's Paradise.

Gotta watch those cottonmouths - they'll keep you busy.
I have had cottonmouths wanting to get in the boat with me and I whipped them good with the end of my rod and they swam under the boat only to try to get in the boat from the other side which required another rod tip whipping until they changed their mind. Alway kept one eye looking for snakes while fishing down there. LOFR
And if the cottonmouth falls in the boat the boat is his. When we fish Hickory Lake in N.C. we seen lots and its nothing for them to be sunning in a branch overhanging the water. I really don't mind snakes but it would be that element of surprise when it fell in the boat.
And as you would know LOFR...the cottonmouths will get up in these cypress trees and other shoreline cover sunning and it can get interesting if you're the one that spooks them....
Yea, this looks great, the only thing bigger than the bluegill here would probally be the cottonmouths.
YA KNOW DICK when I'm fishing I try and think about times in the past. Great trips and memories I have of friends , some of whom are now gone, and the pleasure of their company . The older I get the less I care about big catches of fish and more about the moment and the solitude of a good friends company and drinking in all the day has to offer in memories. Ya know a day when the wind isn't howling and the birds are singing their songs in the trees on the shore. The little dimples on the water from were a gill or some other fish is feeding, or a muskrat swimming by and ya just sit and watch it.
I don't think much about the pole , bug , or much else. I've caught my share of fish and its time to help everyone else do the same.
A SMILE ON SOMEONE ELSES FACE SAYS IT ALL !
I would love to have a spot like that.
So peaceful. What a great area.
I'm sure mental is a big part of it. When I'm out fishing I think nothing but the moment my mind is in nothingless except for the pole in hand with very deep concentration. Wife tell me she can tell by my facial features I'm in deep concentration, What better state of mind doing something you really love. It's the greatest feeling ever.
WHAT A SHOT FROM THE MASTER!!!!!
Being in a company work force of 9,000 and having gone to sea on Submarines for 22 years before that Dick....it's an understatement to say I search for peaceful and tranquil locations.......In my opinion, the fishing is normally a little better in these spots as well but that might be mental.....
