Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

A 12" class Coppernose that weighed just under two pounds......tipped in at 1 pound 13 ounces......an awesome take on a 1/32 ounce Gronaw River Critter at two feet in five feet of water......was a rise up strike with a surface explosion on hook set that got my heart racing.....

Thanks guys......indeed Jim.......I always stick with the spin casting gear until one week after the July Full Moon and I then shift back to the telescopic gear.......gills will start to spread back out with the higher water temperatures and not as spooky so you can get closer.....this fish was caught late July post spawn.....

OUTSTANDING JEFFREY AND CONGRATS BUDDY , A WHOPPER BY ANYONES STANDARDS !!!!!

I must agree...10 inch and better bluegills are a true bench mark, nationwide, for trophy class fish.

Some regions have more than others, with lots of 10 to 11 inch fish ( Albermarle rivers, Southwest/Southern Cal lakes and pockets of waters in Minn. Alabama and Florida, and others). But when fish reach that 11 to 12 inch size, they literally grow 'outward' rather than put on much more length...true giants of the sunfish world.

Great fish memory from the past, Jeffrey...om a pole-n-line effort?

Thanks Gerome.......it is a life time memory.......we all hope to catch that giant but what motivates me now with bluegill fishing is catching trophy class fish consistently and for me that is Coppernose Gills 10" or greater....if I can continue that feat I will be perfectly content........it takes patience, persistence and preservation.........

He may have been banged up but what a "beaut" - great fish!  That to me would be a "life time" memory!

This ended up being my largest Coppper last year Gerome........just a few ounces under two pounds and he was poor after working all summer.......Caught him late July and he was banged up a bit..........
