COOL FISH, NEVER SEEN ONE BEFORE. DO THEY TASTE LIKE BLUEGILLS
Those things are getting bigger and bigger by the month.
Thanks Bill......I have seen some of the great fliers you have caught on Richmond Mill..........I never turn away from a chance to catch a few fliers and I'm fortunate that they are widespread on the Albemarle and surrounding tributaries.....
Thanks Jim......
They go near bottom in water temps below 40 degrees Carl but are most often caught around the Albemarle in four feet or less.........
Thanks John..........Fliers get very aggressive at times in some of the largest groups I've ever experienced.........they will bite readily in water temps from 40 degrees to above 90...........they have become very adaptive to the local swamps in which low oxygen occurs often from rains and winds turning the marsh over.........they bite similar to a crappie but most are just five to six inches long...........they will take artificial, live baits including pretty big minnows, and popping bugs as well......a fun little species that can provide hours of fun when most other species are inactive for one reason or another.........
Wow! Jeff this is a great picture and a top notch fish. The flyer is my secret favorite of the "gill" family...such great color and look! Congrats...
Very nice! Let's show it off!
AND ;; HOW DEEP DO YO UYUSUALLY CATCH THESE ?
Nice Jeffrey. Wish we had these around here. What can you tell me about their feeding and temp needs?
