Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

THIS ONE was on a foam spider which is what I learned to tie bugs on.

Hey Tony,

as a matter of fact the fish in question was caught approx. 40 yards away from were the pic of me on my page was caught. It's a borrow pit from route 80 and is about 10 acres in size and depth up to 32 feet. Just a side note. I have more fair sized gill pics from this pond if you guys aren't bored yet with my pics. Let me know if you want to see more.

NOPE I looked in my pics and this one is the only shot I have of that fish. If I remember right it was a female and the reason I know that is that all the males that come out of this lake were she was caught are vvvvvvvvvvery dark almost to the belly. The time of year I caught her was start of spawn here and actually was not taken on a spider but a yellow wooly  worm the same lure I got my mounted gill with. THe mounter was taken with in 10 feet of were I got this one . I was fishing with a smallllllllllll bobber and my fly on a spinning out fit and the fly about 2' below the surface over about 6 feet of GIN clear water.

I was hoping to see the fish from another angle, more directly above. That bright orange breast looks like a male, but perhaps it's a trick of the light. The smaller opercular flap is something usually seen on females, so I'm wondering what it is. Just looking for a positive I.D. Do you remember when you caught it, as in was it on a nest?

Well Tony I don't know if I have one or not. I can look in my old albumns here . Why do you ask, just curious.
