Do you love big bluegill?
Had 41 crappie this afternoon feeding heavy on shad pods in an active wind tide..........I fished my minnow tipped jig below the bait and the slabs were rising on a popping motion.......smallest fish was 12.5" and most were 13 to 14 inches like these two......

It broke loose Columbus Day last year......a little later in 2015.....
Thanks Ken.......we are taking advantage of sustained ideal water temps in this region.......they have been holding between 69 to 74 and all you need is a little overcast or moving water and it's game on............we have very little deep water on these rivers as I have mentioned before...........the fish I caught over this weekend actually never leave a creek that is miles long and six feet at best.......spring you catch them in a foot of water......summer they pull out to the channel and surrounding structure........Fall they come back in when water temps drop into the lower 70s and finally in the winter they will stack up back in the channel and they can be caught drifting or trolling while my neighbors to the North are hard water fishing.......I catch some gills all year but the abundant Florida strain slow down to nearly a halt in water below 50 degrees......Winter is my least favorite time of the year because of the shorter days and often adverse boating conditions.......but it's all good because I can start counting down to spring 2015.......Good luck as you work toward "ice on".......we were 85 here on the coast today......
great looking fish Jeff! things are slowing way down here on the panfish bite with the fall turnover. things should start picking up again soon all the way to ice on
Thanks Vince......it has truly been a great year and a couple months to go.......I'm going to hit it hard until New Year's Eve and see where it lands........
Those are some dandy crappies, Jeffrey. Congrats on a great day!
Thanks guys......crappie bite continues to be special here on the Albemarle.......hard to move away from biting fish and normally I don't.......these fish were flipping out of the water chasing shad......I just held on when my bait was suspended below a swimming pod of shad..........and no wonder these fish are as solid as they are pounding that big prey source......
Outstanding size structure for tidal slabs!
Oh man. Great day!
Nice crappie double Jeff.
