I loe it when you've hit a pocket like that. For whatever reason, the fish are stacked up there and anything that hits triggers their competitive urge.

One memorable time this happened was when Don Schmotzer and I were at Heavenly Ranch... well, the only time I was there!

In one corner of a pond was a small overhangning bush. Don motioned me over and told me to hit just that spot with a Beetle Spin. When I was able to land the lure in just the right few yeards of area, the big bluegill would hit it like a freight train.

Land the lure outside of that precise spot and... nuttin.

I've encountered it at Lake Murray alot, too, usually associated with emergent structure like downed logs. Land the lure and start it moving and BAM!! FIsh on!!

But retrieve the lure just ten feet without a strike, and you may as well bring it all the way back to the boat for all the good it'll do.

All of fishing hinges on those moments.

Doubles are always a bonus great pair of fish there.

Thanks David.....it was fast and furious at times.....often your rig never stopped after casting.....simply kept going as big gills hammered on the splash.....lot of fun!
