Thanks a million Clint for the info. I will be working to find someone to make the drive with me one day next week. My problem would be getting sleepy driving home (advancing age is catching up)  I got so sleepy driving to DFS after having lunch at Dee's in Vernon yesterday  I had to stop in Caryville and walk around a bit.  Got up at 4AM so I could get to the landing by 5:30.   I got spoiled in Texas going at 7 or 8, maybe 9 and catching all I wanted every time I went out.

Have never seen a "hand painted bream", except for pictures. Sure woud like to get a few pounders on the fly rod.  We don't have them in the Choctawhatchee that I know of.

I would take the flat boat , I used a yellow bug, my friend had a cream colored bug both had a lot of hits. Yes I put in at cox landing off of dam rd, water level is low so the lighter rthe boat you have the better off you will be. Your right the ride back home is long its a hour or better for me and 50 dollars for gas. A place to stay would be nice

. Friend Joe "had" a camp at Howards Creek but had to vacate. Whole bunch did not get their land leases renewed, etc.  Anyway, he's been talking about Howards and Wewa. He's made the trip in one day before.

The going is not bad, it's the coming home that's the drag.  Sure wish there was a place to stay down there for 2 or 3 days.

I assume you launced at the landing down river from the old dam??  Also, what bug did they hit best.

Would his 17 ft bass tracker work ok or would my flat boat be better, or either OK.  Have never fished Dead Lakes.

No I didn't think to weigh or measure them. They hit a yellow popper

Those are some dang big hand-painted bluegill!  Did you weigh or measure them by chance?
