Well Leo - youre right. Both the yellow and black beetles get attention. Often they are hit within the first 10 seconds of landing. If not, twitching them and slowly bringing them back will sometimes elicit a strike.

The Gurgle Pops are just an adaptation on hits same idea.

Nice job! I see you got a few bugs that will be hammered pretty hard soon. The black beetle/ant will be the best.

I'm sure your right about the bigger fish being deeper.  I've been using them where multiple species are present, so there are some kind of aggressive fish around that will hit a popper.

HAHAHA Dick!

That is really nice Allen - thanks for the tutorial. The one problem with surface lures is the biggest gills are not there all that often. They tend to hang back and deeper. My guess is the G-Pop would be good in the early AM and evening, and in the spring, when the larger fish are shallower.
Of course there are always the random whoppers that pick it up in the middle of the day. I suspect low impact flies like this are more attractive than the big "spa-looshing" items we usually throw. The smaller sonic signature such bugs as these emit probably entice fish more than engender reaction strike behavior.

Whoa - where did all that crap come from? hahaha :)

Have you tank-tested you G-Pop to see how it rides in the water?  Mine will usually ride fairly low, with just the back up top.  This is also how my Pop-R's ride in the water.

Take up all the slack, and give the rod a twitch.  It should pop nicely.  I've gotten good at giving it just enough of a twitch to make it pop, but not move to much.

Honestly, today, I was using my size 8's for panfish.  I almost went down to my size 12's, as I had a LOT of small fish hitting them.

I envision using the smaller ones just like those Betts Poppers that I still have a few of.  Once I loose the Betts, or the sunnies chew them to pieces, I'll just replace them with the G-Pops in size 12 and size 8.

It's going to be a couple days before I can get one or more of the Black ones done.  I don't have any black foam in the size needed, and I'm not going to be anywhere near a craft store for a couple days.

This fly is banned in 48 states because of the success of it.

Thanks, Ken!

Ive not seen the Gurgle Pop in action, Allen. But I can imagine it would be a bit different from the usual popper. Its lighter and rides higher, with less disturbance. The fishes world is kinda quiet - baits like the G-Pop that cater to that are a leg up, IMHO.
