The Tilapia I have caught were fighters, gave my little 3wt a good work out.

Nice fish Leo...the lakes i fish are loaded with tilapia but,no one ever catches them by rod and reel so,its pretty cool that you caught it like that......

Comment by dick tabbert on May 29, 2013 at 4:34pm

Glad you like it Leo at least I did one thing right.

Dick, you have not seen the action that snapped my poor trout rod from the violent fights. Your telescopic rod works so well, and so sensitive, it's not funny. I'm getting a few more to replace my poor trout rod. I'll try to repair it and use it as an ultra fast action rod.

Jim, Jen, this is what happens when the trout rod is attacked by the tilapia..

2nd fish of the day

Nice! I've always wanted to catch a tilapia...maybe one day...

Comment by Leo Nguyen on May 29, 2013 at 3:21pm

Yes Jen. That's one of the 4 primary species in the lake. Then you have the hybridized ones as well. Fun time identifying them all. The hybrids are the best fighters, even at 1/2lbs. Much better fighter than bass any day.

Great pic Leo! That's a tilapia?

Well Dick, they have blue colors, they have gills, and we will be eating them soon. Hehehehehe.
