Don't forget that sometimes there are F-2 backcrosses, which can look almost completely like one of the parent species, but have a little bit of the other evident.

I do tend to catch what I consider to be a higher number of BG x RES hybrids than normal, Walt. However, this photo did not do the fish's coloration true justice. I believe this one was a RES, just displaying winter coloration.

Still, I do need to pay more attention to the physical attributes. I should've at least got a ray count. I keep thinking that I will start a chart, logging the differences I encounter in the sunfish in my ponds. After all these years, I believe the term "pure", might be the least accurate adjective that I could use to describe my fish.
