Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I caught hundreds of great gills last year on this gold jig in pink including countless trophy gills over 10".....I most often fished them tipped with live crickets or grass shrimp.....

Here's one of my favorite patterns from the Gronaw River Critter grass shrimp collection.......

No worries......Jim Gronaw has made sure I have plenty of the returning champion from 2012.....I think the flash on the collar will make these baits even better if that's possible.......

No Pike to worry with in Carolina...... but Longnose Gar, big cats and especially Bowfin are rough on the gear. I land many using a larger jig like these in 1/32 ounce but straightened or broken hooks are not uncommon...got to have those predators for a balanced fishery!

It seems like when you come up with a hot jig pattern everything hits it.  I like to tie my own jigs and the toothy Northern Pike up here in Minnesota are always robbing my best ones.

Jim Gronaw has mastered these jigs Tim....they catch everything in the rivers I fish. I needed more for this year because the big predators just killed the ones from last year......

It's exciting to go into Spring with a new batch of Gronaw Grass Shrimp Jigs.....This color has been amazing in the tannic waters of the Albemarle/Pamlico Estuary in North Carolina......
