Thanks guys. John, I caught the comparing Bluehead at the beginning of June 2012.
And good Northern pike bait
Leo I agree! Chubs are good Brook Trout bait Ben if they share the same stream !
Ah ha three days ago ! Now the question is what does a Bluehead Chub look like in spawning season .What month did you catch the comparing Bluehead in? They have tubercules but my pic doesn't really show it . The 'Common Shiner' I posted the link to ,as you can see, was caught in May . It is decked out in what I am assuming is Male Spawning colors.
And because of their strange noises, they get eaten as we use them as live baits or while being hauled in.
I caught this fish three days ago John, which doesn't make too much sense if the Blueheads breed between May and July. I was thinking a few tubercles were there all the time on the Bluehead, hence the nickname "Knottyhead". Maybe the males can go in breeding mode regardless of the time of year...I am not sure.
I looked at your Shiner and it has some wild colors!
Here's what I been told is a Common Shiner with tubercules on the face .I caught it in a small brook minutes from my house in NE New Jersey.http://bigbluegill.com/photo/may-92-rbsm?context=album&albumId=...
Was this fish caught in the spring then Ben?
My fish book says the tubercles represent a breeding male. That must be why the eyes are red also - they are normally a light yellow color.
