Hey Lori and glad to hear from you again.....glad you guys got out yesterday and I too echo your 9/11 thoughts.....I assume you guys fish from the bank most often or exclusively....trouble with river fishing is you must often move around to find active fish...out of nearly 5000 gills this season more than 4800 have been taken from a boat......the fishing is great in Northeast N.C. but a boat to access these productive areas is a must.....Spring is better than Fall but I continue to catch limits of gills through Halloween.....Let me know how you folks prefer to fish and we'll see what we can do.....Take care and good luck on the water......

It will be a series of rings on the bottom normally two to three feet across, most often in rather shallow water in areas that offer sand, gravel and clay for these fish to build their nests....best example I can give you...Pick up a golf ball and picture it as a huge flat surface....The dimples on a golf ball will represent all the nests in a particular colony/bed........I'll comment on a few pictures I've put on here so you can see them....

When it comes to my search for Big Sunfish I don't rule out any body of water Lori...I fish the brackish rivers in the coastal region hard but I too have a weak spot for that quiet little pond tucked away that sees little to no fishing pressure...I have access to several here in my region that hold solid fish, I normally hit these just a couple times to not wear out my welcome if you will....All you have to do is look at freshwater fishing records and you'll see many record fish caught in ponds including that giant Redear that Travis Jackson caught a few years ago.....Bank fishing a river can be tough, access in many areas is limited which can hurt your success.....I seek quiet creeks and coves off the main rivers where Bluegill can find some peace and quiet to raise their family....I've never fished the three rivers you referenced but if I was to fish one it would be the Eno just based on literature/testimony that I have read over the years....I don't like fast moving water for quality sunfish, Redbreast being the exception to that rule.....You're doing the right thing by exploring the possibilities close to home to figure out which ones are holding fish......The lakes can be productive too but in most cases the most successful anglers on a lake fish only that body of water meaning they become infinitely familiar with all aspects and the different impacts....More to follow...

I've caught gills using many different methods but two of my favorites are Spincasting and telescopic......Telescopic is just a modern day cane pole but provides versatility and lots of enjoyment to fishing....One of my grandfather's favorite ways to fish and I just got hooked a long time ago.....In the river fishing/heavy cover environment that I most often fish I personally like spincasting precision because I don't need the distance that spinning gear provides....Skilled Spinning gear anglers struggle in the environments I fish in most often.....But if you frequent lakes and ponds more often with open water then a spinning set up might be more appealing to you.....More to follow on the terminal tackle and Bluegill tourneys.....

Lori I would be honored to be on your friends list. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I’m sure between me and the rest of the BBG site we will come up with some kind of answer or if you just want to chat that’s fine also. THANK YOU much Dick Tabbert
