Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hoping members (especially Dick Tabbert and Bruce Tomaselli) will post pics of their ice flies here .Here are a Greg Sheehan beaded nymph and a few of my simple one feather jigs; a red marabou and an African Grey tail feather for bloodworm imitations.

John I'll have to get in my BBG photos since I gave everything away. I will get them for you.

If you'd like to post here that'd be great Dick .I never got to use some of your creations and Carl's last year . I need to dig them up and get them ready .I sure hope for good ice this year!

Simple red marabou or Red African Grey Tail feather makes for a bloodworm imitation that has caught fish through the ice for me . Gills  and Perch take them .Need to tie some olive ones too. Greg's beaded nymph ( a great Trout lure in small streams) fished under the ice and above a pounding weight has done well also.

OH YES DICK!! I can't wait to try your Goggle eyes and Glow ice flies through the ice this year .I have caught fish from shore in open cold water on these using them with a float .Fantastic neat work ! You are one of the best tiers around!

Sure, I'll dig them out, but I can't until next week as I'm going to camp Pittsburgh this week. Please remind me.

Look forward to seeing those !

Hey John. Is that bead head nymph tied above the sinker? I've been tying my rigs in that manner to get my jig off the muddy bottom. I add a dropper about a foot above the sinker.

Yes Bruce ,this  rig keeps it visible off bottom and the pounding sinker for noise commotion and raising sand and mud .This is a good setup on a jigging rod .I like to have a deadstick rod or two in nearby holes that I can keep a close eye on when doing this . If the fish are nearby I am hoping to call them in  or excite them more if they are there on the flasher but not hitting.
