Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We all love bluegill, and some of our catch is for consumption....but when the cleaning is done, who gets the waste????...the local gas station garbage can?....the garden?.....the woods?.....I freeze my carcass until garbage day and no one gets offended by that cadaver smell.

sounds great! those fliers are so cool. 

 My cats get a few, and the rest go to the woods to feed the possums and what ever else need a meal that night.

OK, you have convinced me. After sixty five years of doing it the way Grandpa did it, I am going to give your way a try. A bunch of us are going on a Bluegill fishing trip for a week corresponding with the first full moon in June. Most all the local to the area are Game Fishermen and consider Bluegills childs play. (Boy, am I glad I never grew up!) The little motel where we stay allows us to set up our cookers outside and have a down home fish fry, consisting of Fried Bluegills, hand mixed and dropped hushpuppies, handmade coleslaw, southern style rice,  sliced onions and potatoes fried in the fish grease, washed down with homemade southern style sweet iced tea or a Pepsi. We invite the motel staff and the guest (mostly fishermen) to join us. This trip, I am gonna filet some of the gills. However, instead of disposing of the center section, I think I will remove the heads, clean em up, bread em, fry em and suck the meat off the bones. Thank the Good Lord I was born and raised country and in the south!! 

I bag 'em and freeze 'em had a bag in the freezer when I left for a fishing trip to Little Green Lake in Wisconsin but in this bag was not carcasses, there were 5 mamouth Gills ranging from 10.5 to12 inches. I wanted a few more to add to a piece of driftwood. When I arrived home my beautiful wife had cleaned out the garage fridge and figured they were scraps, should have went to the landfill to search for them cause I have not caught a gill close to ten since. Guess I'm eventually going to have to get to that farm pond for some more bulls!!!

i still have a northern,,, of 36 inches my PB in my moms freezer since 1983... i guess im going to have a replica made and throw out the carcass ... shell never know.

PS What brand is that freezer?

Mine go out behind my woodshop. They are usually gone by morning and if there any left, the crows eat them. So, no waste of anything.
