Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Where did you all come from? It was exciting to see such a good influx of new members, but I found it interesting to see so much in a single day. Were we featured somewhere?

Hey Bruce nice to meet you. Well i found out about this site from a e-mail i got on friday from fishin informer, so i clicked on the article read the story about big bluegills, after that i went to the website signed up and i so glad i did. I have been on this site all day checking eveything out, i wish i would have know about this site years ago. You dont find to many sites just dedicated to bluegills, and this is the best one i found. I'll be on here every chance i get when i not working or fishing, plus i'll be spreading the word to my other fishing buddys so they will be join too. Thanks keep up the good work.

I found this site from a google search.

It's interesting to know that bluegill are reportedly the MOST caught sport fish, overall, in the US. Some of this is due to their sheer population volumes, of course.  And when you factor in kids and grand kids catching them,  bluegill look pretty strong.

But most adult fishermen consider them to be unworthy. Most "serious" fishermen fish for bass, stripers, big catfish or trout and salmon. "Go big or go home" might be the motto of the earnest angler. I'd say the only panfish that gets the nod with any regularity is crappie. To be blunt, the guy with a cane pole and can of worms is a joke.

This is especially odd, because most anglers consider bluegill to be some of the best eating fish to be caught. I don't know many anglers that relish bass on the plate - but almost all sing the praises of bluegill fillets.

I always thought fishing for the most plentiful fish around was the most efficient thing to do. Setting "catch and release" thinking aside for the moment, fishing started as a way to eat. Only later did it evolve into in a recreation and pastime.

Also, the odds are good that a lot of specialized gear won't be needed for the most common fish and one can probably find them in the widest variety of places. It also stands to reason that they will be plentiful, loosening restrictions and bag limits.

So when I found this site, it soon became the my only fishing site/forum I frequent.

Of course Ive been here for about a year, now so I guess I cant be called a new member... hmmmm.

Hey Don...great to hear that enthusiastic bluegill fishermen are out there. Enjoy the site!

Riverside, CA. Plenty of city slickers' water holes around here, but not enough large panfish games to hunt down.

For all new and old members............there is a How to group. If you have questions, check it out!

HOW TO

28 members Latest Activity: Aug 9 A place to put explicit details of how to. Like how to remove a hook from your buddy's ear, or how to put a cricket on a hook.

I also was led here by my fishin' informer. Found this website fascinating. lots of good stuff on here.

I found the site through a you tube video. It was in the credits at the end of the video. Not even sure how I found the video just bored one night. lol

My name is Clarence and I live in Park forest,Ill which is a south suburb of Chicago.I love to catch bluegill and I stumbled on the website by looking at a video on Youtube and I love it.Looking to connect with some bluegill fisherman in the south suburb of chicago.

Clarence, if you're in the ChiTown area,  you must connect with Johnny Wilkins. Just do a search for him here at BBG and follow the path to him. He will surprise you with his 'gill fishing success and put you onto some tactics that will blow your socks off. He's gonna know some great fishing spots right in your back yard, too.

Thanks David I will look him up.

Hey David I looked him up and he is not llisted as a member.
