Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been wanting to post this for a while. This sign was posted  this spring at a lake here in Southern Illinois. (Devils Kitchen) This lake is known to have the biggest bluegill here in SoIL. Seems to be as they are trying to grow the bass population and not the bluegill. Seems like we will be losing those 10 inch bluegill in SoIL.

would a slot limit 8-9"  be what you want Dwayne?

I don't like taking anything over 8 inches out of the lake. Lake has been over fished for years now. I like the daily limit, would not hurt me any if it was less. Anymore around here an 8in bluegill is a good size gill.

what a shame Dwayne... lake is going to have problems in the future. really the only way to grow ten inchers is to let the 8 in plus fish go.

Agreed 100%.  I think a smaller slot limit would be better John. Small fish for food for bass and allow the release of larger fish to grow bluegill.

I 've kept 8-, 8,1/2 " Bluegills to eat in the past but very few .In this area I don't know many folks that eat Bluegill . A 9-10" is rare and I always release those .
