Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Went fishing the other day, and parked at a park to go fish Towne Lake in Austin Tx. I've fished here a few times, and each time it's been pretty unproductive. Usually it ends up in crossing a road and going to fish the Colorado River below the dam. At the lake it was  slow, but  i caught a couple 3 inch long sunfish, and then i caught a small Rio Grande Cichlid on an earwig that i put on the hook. I decided to cross and try the river. The usual spots were slow as well, so i decided to try further down.

I walked down a path for what seemed like forever, then I finally found a side path that lead to the water.  I get to the river bank and it is something i've never fished before. It was beautiful, and I found it hard to believe that it was in a city. I walked along the bank, using a night crawler under a porcupine quill float, but nothing took it, and would swim away as soon as I moved it. I switched to a spinner fly, and cast out a few times and eventually i caught a small bass. I moved further down a ways, and found a deeper hole along a bank. I had to wade out to it, and after my first cast i saw group of bass small bass swim after it and one took  it and I reeled him in. These bass were interesting, because they looked almost bright green in the water, and had no markings on them other than green. Shortly after, I caught another small bass that I feel like had markings different than a largemouth. I proceeded to catch a few more small bass, one of them i caught after seeing some surface action in the rapids and casting to it.

Eventually they stopped hitting the spinner fly, and I began to notice alot of top water activity. Unfortunately i didn't have the right stuff to take care of it, and shortly thereafter while trying to get my lure out of a branch my fishing adventure came to an end when i received a  phone call from the police telling me that someone had broke into my truck, giving me a harsh reminder that i was indeed still in the city.

FISH WHERE YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN, AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. WALKING A LITTLE FARTHER THAN MOST PEOPLE WALK, CAN BE BENEFICIAL. I LOVE EXPLORING. THANKS FOR SHARING. GOOD LUCK FISHING!

Yes sir, I agree! Thank you!

Nothing like fishing a river.  Pretty scenic for being in an urban area.
