Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Do you believe the full moon improves your bluegill fishing?  It may be imagination but I believe in it and do great around the full moon in Carolina during the Summer.

I have been keeping a fishing journal for about two months now to help me decide what factors play the biggest role. I can tell you that my best trips have been within two days before or after the new moon or the full moon these last two months. I have recorded things like pressure, moon phase, location, time of day, catch, temp, water temp, and also wind. Moon seems to play the biggest role but wont be convinced of anything till I keep this journal for at least a year, can't tell that I'm a skeptic can ya?
Absolutely, good information Chad and we are fishing different types of water as well. All interesting and I thought I was the only one that kept a log! LOL Good luck this week, full moon on Friday!
I'm a firm believer in the moon phases. I have been keeping records when I do get a chance to go. My best fishing has been 3 days before and to 3 days after the full moon. Its not an exact science don't know why it works but it does seem to work for me for lots of species of fish.
I know that longear sunfish, bluegill ,green sunfish and other sunfish species bed all through the spring and into late summer on the full moon cycles, so watch those moon phases and keep a bucket of crickets handy.
IN OUR AREA THE FIRST FULL IN MAY MEANS THE BLUE GILL ARE ON THE BEDS.
i sure hope so! going in the morning! went wednesday and managed to catch 10 bluegills and 4 bass. but good lord was it hot,by 10:30am you would have swore i had been fishing in the rain, everything i had on was soaked! gave up fishing and went and checked the cards in my trail cameras, soon it will be time to exchange this fishing rod for a rifle!LOL
Caught my first one pounder the nighyt before the full moon. Moon thing has to mean something.
Seems to me that BG bedding activity peaks +/- 3 days around the full moon. This almost always translates into more BG in the bucket.  I don't have a clue if there is any science to support this... it's just my observation.
well, this full moon didn't pan out as being exceptional, could be that the water is to warm ,managed to catch some but not like it was a month or so ago.

Well, my full moon theory has been debunked on this month's full moon.  Haven't found significant numbers of BG anywhere... go figure?!

"That's why we call it fishin instead of catchin"

we caught the 100 plus Saturday in 4 ft of water just as we did in the spring..A friend told me his friend caught the limit in 17 ft of water under a bridge..who knows about Bluegill..Its a hunt and fish thing
Good information from all. I appreciate you folks taking the time to provide your thoughts on the moon phase. Like alot of you stated, June is probably the peak here in North Carolina as well, with May being good if its later in the month. Good luck to you all.
