Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

How to send a bad Bluegill to the corner? (in a round pond)

I'll have to take a picture of these plastic containers, 4'x4'x4' cubes, but until I do....
I was wondering, could I put one of these containers in my pond as a holding tank for HBG & GS, not to torture them, but until I've caught enough of them to have a fry? I would drill holes for circulation, but how many could I keep in that space? I've only owned my home for 1 month, but previous owner fed the fish pellets of some kind, and, I was thinking, I'd fatten them up before the harvest. YIKES, there I go thinking again!

500 gallon tank from Tractor supply
15 gallon instant hot from Grainger
Baby Giant Pump Grainger.
small air compressor Home Depo
2" duct wrap insulation.( for tank) from Home depo
4 rack of rib ( pay for my sons to build.)
Hot tub for talapia priceless
This will be an interesting project to follow and I hope you keep us posted with pictures.

But would it not be cheaper to just purchase some Tilapia each year?
And what would be the fun of that? They would still have offsprings I could sale to people in Ark. lol It just a though. Remember mawmaw don't let me out much so I have to find thing like this to keep me out of trouble.
I think it is a great idea, and I actually have a tank I was planning on trying to raise some in my garage, but with my 3rd child due in December, changing jobs, and just trying to keep the wife happy I have put that on hold.

Many say you can save money by raising them yourself, but I think that is if you need them in large numbers or possible sell a few to recoup some costs.

But as far as an interesting hobby I do not think you could go wrong.

I still plan to keep some if I stock them this spring just to grow them out to eat, stock in a pond full of bass (must be larger so not to get eaten), or even see if they will spawn in the tank.

But that is a few months away and much can change by then.

Just keep the pics coming of the ones you are catching now.

By the way have you noticed if the males are lighter in color than the females?

Also you mentioned one was full of eggs, did you let it go, or at least dump out the eggs?
