Water Level Graph…..Helps To Explain Hypoxia…..7/9/2023

This graph only goes back to 7/5 but we’ve had extremely high water consecutively since late June….when our rivers stay a foot high this long it floods the adjoining swamp/marsh and this in turns pulls down our oxygen levels, or hypoxia…..very few freshwater species will actively feed when our oxygen is low….in many cases you will only get bites from fliers which can tolerate low oxygen much better than other species……example……if you placed one of each species of sunfish in a tank with no oxygen source…..the available oxygen would slowly deplete and the flier would be the last fish alive……

We don’t see the effects of a moon tide on our local rivers…..mainly a wind tide and with a strong southwest flow our water is up…..I had a rain cooled 79…..my family is talking about how hot it has been in Louisiana this summer…..brutal heat index..
