In my neck of the woods, a stumpknocker is a spotted sunfish and not a shellcracker!

A northern's view (the trash talk):

Lepomis macrochirus - aka "great time and good eats"
'gill - abbreviation for those of us too lazy to type or say bluegill
bream - definately a southern thing.
brim - what the front part of a baseball cap is called
BG - Internet term for bluegill used by those even lazier then 'gill users
perch - a much differnet species of fish, under a completely seperate family of fish.

Lepomis microlophus - see Lepomis macrochirus
shellcracker - yep, that's what we call 'em
'cracker - say that in any city 'round here and be prepared to start dodging bullets
government brim - Area 51 stockings?
RES - Red-eared sunfish..........laziness, sheer laziness
Chinquapin -reads like a dog breed; however, I'm pretty sure Bruce merely sneezed and hasn't gotten the chance to edit the spelling on this one yet.

Micropterus salmoides - Most over-commercialized and over-fished species in sport angling
LMB - good thing you're not my child; I'd have you outside running around.
green carp - This and brown carp any panfish angler can define. The mouth and fin structure is somewhat different from the carp family I'm accustomed to however.
bluegill management device - I've been referred to as this a few times over the years. Never really thought they were actually calling me a bass...................no wonder they laughed during the conversations.

Question on the "stumpknocker" term: Can you actually hear them bumping structure, or is that a myth to justify the name?
