There are a lot of us on http://www.sdfish.com in the freshwater forum and http://yumabassman.com in the panfish forum. Now that I have found this place, I intend to spread the word. I expect you will see lots more of us soon.
Between the reservoirs in San Diego, the canals in Imperial County and the lower Colorado River system around Yuma AZ there are lots of opportunities to pursue panfish.
Fancy seeing you on here. I was just goofing off after reading an article about 2lb bluegill in In-Fisherman and thought I would do a search on Bluegill in southern california. You know the only reason that you have huge bluegill here in San Diego is because they transplanted them from my home state, Florida. I am sure to see you out on the lakes and eventually we will have to hook up for a fishing trip here in San Diego or maybe even try out one of these lakes with the really big gluegill. Later, Crappieboyz (www.sdfish.com)
Jim your right. Our florida strain gills are the real monsters in so cal. It's pretty rare to get a 1lb regular gill, but a florida strain gill at a pound isn't so difficult.
I live in San Diego but post mostly on YumaBassMan.com because:
1. I like fishing the Colorado and associated canals
2. I like the folks who hang out on in the forums
If you are after Crappie in San Diego, go to www.sdfish.com and pay attention to what Roy Justice and Str8slabaronies (aka RoyM) have to say. Crappie fishing in our reservoirs is a different game than Midwest and Southeast crappie fishing. It is worthwhile to search the archives for "crappie 101"
