Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I found a 7' fiberglass fly rod with a Tennessee handle at a garage sale.
The only marking says CONOLON 6303.
My question is how do I find out what weight line to use ?
I think this would be a good rod to fish from my kayak, instead of a 9' 5wt.
Any suggestions?

Might be a Garcia fly rod.

I read that it's pre Garcia,50s and early 60s

You just have to try the line, cast and see what works best. That's how it used to be done. I'd start with a 6 wt line if it's fiberglass. My 6/7 wt Phillipson casts much better with 7wt than anything. 6 wt hardly loads it. 7wt it loads and shoots to the moon.

Thanks, I loaded it 6wf today, I'll try that in the morning.

DAVID;; I TYPED IN; CONOLON FLY ROD;; IT TOOK ME ; TO E BAY; AND SEVERAL OTHER SITES THERE MIGHT BE WORTH CHECKING OUT FOR YOU.  ITS ALWAYS BEST; TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT WEIGHT ROD YOU MIGHT HAVE; THAN ; ( LOAD UP ) A LINE THAT MIGHT NOT BE THE RIGHT LINE WEIGHT FOR IT;; IT COULD STILL LEAVE YOU GUESSING .

I agree, I think I'll wait and do some more research.

fiberglass flyrodders is about the best for this type of thing.conolon was bought by garcia in the 60s.
