Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Thinking of adding a second rod to the quiver. Anyone using long UL spinning rods for crankbaits? I spent a lot of time with Tenkara and Keiryu rods 10-22' along with nymphing rods that were 13' long and knowing how well they can protect light lines and give good leverage. I kind of have my eye on the Fenwick River Runner 8' UL Moderate. There are none locally so I can't wiggle and compare to my UL Fast that is 6'9" but the moderate might be a bit more fluid through the length. I have also emailed Fenwick and waiting for a reply.

I use several 12' UL spinning rods with great success. I use size 20 spinning reels spooled with 8 or 10# super braid. I put on a #12 black Crane swivel at the end of the braid and tie a 1' or so piece of fluoro on as a leader. When fished vertically, the pannies typically hook themselves on the small jigs (1/80, 1/64, 1/48, 1/32) that I use.

I suggest you try Bass Pro Crappie Maxx Mighty Lite or Signature rods OR the B'&M rods from Cabela. All are well made and affordable. Please note that if the description says "pole", it most likely has micro-guides that are fine for vertical fishing but not great for casting distance. If the description says "rod", it usually will have larger diameter guides to facilitate casting.

I have, and use, both UL rods & poles.

Have several 8 foot spinning rods made on 8 foot fly rod blanks, both carbon and fiberglass. The carbon ones are made on 4 and 6 weight blanks. Don't know what the fiberglass ones are made from but they are Walt Foreman rods. All of them are custom built and I love them. Do all my fishing with them not only for panfish but walleye and bass.

...i like the fast action UL better also...

im surprised you dont own a 5-6... IMO most Fun Factor for the buck.

Slip- I used to own a handful of rods from 4.5-5.5' then got into long tenkara rods and now prefer the line protecting capabilities of the longer rods.

Nice, I fished Tenkara, Keiryu and Seiryu . Been using fixed line methods for over the last four seasons.  Last two seasons been about 80% micro fishing  using a Shimotsuke Kosasa in 180 and 210. Good to have company
