20150917~ Firleline Crystal Micro Ice Braid...

this is the line ive been using recently off of one of my last seasons ice rigs... awesome product!...straightens hooks on snags. very impressed with its strength, thinness, sensitivity and castability. feels much stronger than its rated. Remember its thinness that counts!! fish can see mono, floro and super lines very similarly.

20150918- ... Fishing the Point for Crappie

took a walk down to the lake with on UL setup and a 2" PowerMinnow... spent about 30 mins caught two fish and left with back spasms

20150918- Tough Bite on Wixom Lake Today

Well today my “good fishin” streak ended at (3) days of catching many fish especially Black Crappie and B’Gills. Launched the kayak and headed for the favorite spots… marked very few and caught very few. The only difference today was the weather… cloudy warm and calm. I have no idea why I do better in the bright sunlight, but I do.

I lost a big pred fishing parallel casting to laydowns took me on some screeching runs headed towards the main lake… had to have been a brute LMB. The 2# braid held tight  and the fight was turning in my favor when the tiny hook pulled free. Another cast produced a bragger YP… im always glad to see the big guys once in awhile even though by accident.

Hard to find the B”Gill they always stump me in this arm of the reservoir… ended the day with one top tier BG with some nice dark coloring out of the thick stuff.

Started paddling back and picked some more crappies sporadically along the way. Today would have been a good one for minnows under a bobber next to brush logs and laydowns. water temps in the low 70's

Brrrr fall is definitely in the air 20+ mph winds and upr 50s

just loaded up some 4# Nanofil High Vis Yellow on my 6ft Ul ... maybe test out the UL Jigging bite later this afternoon

You tying direct with the Nanofil?  If so, what knot?  I had lots of issues with break-offs tying direct with the 4#, but with a double uni knot to a 4# mono leader, I'm good to go.

Steve... i tried using a fluorocarbon leader at the end of my braid but the leader ended up being 4 times thicker than my braid. i gave it a shot anyway and discovered it made no significant difference in my game so i said why bother? Than I read that all types of lines were visible under water very similarly... so thickness was single most important factor in fishing visibility. Ive seen steelhead caught on straight 8# braid.

When I first tried Nanofil I tied an improved clinch knot to hook with it…. I believe I lost the first fish I set a hook into thinking it was line breakage and lost immediate confidence with it… put it away for months  then started using the Polomar knot now on all super lines… what a difference… absolutely no slippage.

I use the smallest snap available to attach  lures to end of line.

Of course this is all my personal preference.

Thanks for the info Slip.  I may have to try the direct tie again, but for me (and my old eyes), mono is a lot easier to tie on to hooks and jigs.

I got a spool of 2# Nanofil a while back.  It is scary thin (0.002") and I've been hesitant to put it on a reel and use it.  I'll bet it will work great for the upcoming cold water/micro jig fishing.  Being a shore-bound angler, at times, I need all the distance I can get!

Just missed a Master Angler P'Seed by an eighth of an inch

20150919- ... missed it by that much. what an exciting catch!!

20150919-WIXOM LAKE... Trophy P'Seed 99% MAR (master angler rating) of 8.9"
