Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have used 6 pound mono with a 4 pound leader. My problem is I get loops in my line and my leader tangles sometimes when I cast a slip bobber. Im looking for a line for my spinning reel that doesn't do this. Anybody with helpful info would be appreciated Thanks

Personally right now I'm trying berckly fluorocarbon in the 4 lb. test and it's actually bin pretty good, I just tie straight to the main line and cast it out. Hope this helps you out!

for what its worth;; spinning reels; ( sadly) are made wrong.  every pro fisherman will tell you  that;; even the guys who make spinning reels.  but there are things you can do to minimum the twist. first off is good line selection. mono;; braid;; flurocarbon ;; your choice on that.  then;; spooling it on CORRECTLY is a must!!  over spooling with create line twist and bad headacks as well!! ( take some of the line off the spool;; leave a good 1/8 inch of the reel spool showing).  and;; before you go fishing;; dress the line with a line dressing type oil;;; greatly improves casting;; makes line a lot more managable..  at the end of your fishing day;; ( hopefully your in a boat ) strip the line out of your reel;; down to the spool;; drag it a bit in water;; letting all of the twist  out; ( make sure you take every thing offf the line first!!)  then ; simply re- wind it back onto your reel... doing this;; makes your rod and reel ready for th next trip out.   hope this helps !!

Try opening up your cast. More of a looped lob, than a line drive. This has helped me in fly fishing when I'm tangling my 7x tippet in the knots on my built tapered leader, not to mention my strike indicator. But opening up my cast has kept my line and leader from wanting to "tango", and stop me from fishing.

I know I'm speaking from a fly fishing standpoint, but it just might help.

Ya I use the barrel swivel also but the twists are annoying, retying is down time when they are biting. I tried the florocarbon line also but it shortens your distance on my casts. Thanks for the input guys

Steve I use about the same set up but between my main line and leader I use a small barrel swivel. It helps with most of the line twist but not all. If I see that my line is getting tangled more often than normal like every cast I strip off several yards and retie. Only 14 more answer's to go!!!  Good luck.

Steve if you get 15 people to answer this question you will get 15 different answers. Fact is fishing line has came a long way since the 60's and 70's when Stren and Trilene were to 2 main large competitors. Now there are so many companies that offer all these specialized lines it not funny. But along with all these new specialized lines come a hefty price. Me myself personally love fluorocarbon lines on my spinning gear you can feel everything with a decent rod and although still not cheap it is cheaper than a lot of lines out there. Hope this helps and as I said this in only one opinion.
