I mainly do shore angling. I have a small boat, but I don't take it out that much. Many anglers I run into and have short conversations with seem dumbfounded when they find out I'm after bluegill, rock bass, and other panfish and not chasing yellow perch, largemouth, catfish et al. I still catch just about everything out there doing what I'm doing. I enjoy perch fishing from a boat; from shore I think it's too much work for too few fish.
What do you think? Bluegills are for kids? Do you think panfishing is under-rated?
I know I'm preaching to the choir here...but still....
Blue gills, red bellies and yellow bellies are some of the best eating fish from the water. Let those high-falutin', high-dollar-boat, big-engined, water thrashers go after the bass, just leave me tied to a tree limb in a little boat with a cane pole and a can worms. I'll come home with supper most every evening.
It's kinda neat to lean back, soak up some rays, eat some sardines and crackers, catch a mess of fish, visit with the kids and still be able to stay up and tell the story when I get home. I don't think I'd enjoy fishing much if I was so tired I had to go to bed.
