I wouldn't worry about the Lure, I would see if I could get 2 miles of line on my Reel! Man, thats a Long Cast.
Jacob, I like to use bigger lures! This entire fishing season I have used 1/16 and sometimes 1/8 oz jigheads. Bluegills school up from smallest on top of the school down to the biggest on the bottom of such school. The idea is to use heavier jigs thatn normal to "zip" past the smaller fish at the top, targeting the big boys. Don't worry, a big gill will take down a 1/16-1/8 oz jig with a 2.5" Gulp minnow..no problem! Hope this helps!
Since it's September the gills are going to be wanting something a little bit bigger. Like a Kastmaster or any thing else the size of a minnow. Just get a few Kastmasters, Swed. pimple, small rapala, and a few feather jigs.
Sometimes, the way we word our question or present our lure is just asking for it. The small gills just can't resist the bait. Neither can the big gills sometimes. Maybe you can admire the small ones for being quick enough to take the bait before the more cautious, bigger ones chase them away when they nail your lure or question with authority and purpose.

I myself am still a "butterbean." I love stealing bait when it's just asking for it. I also stay back and watch and learn from the more serious and wiser big boys. Sometimes, I see the big boys take the bait just for fun too!

Perhaps you should separate the big gills from the small gills after you get them out of the water. Then you're in charge, and you decide which to keep and which to throw back. Give which to throw back some thought though. The question of which of those is in your best fishing interest is a debate on this site also.

In all seriousness though, I've got to agree with Tom, two miles is a long cast.
