Creation of reel-spool winder?

Got to ask, since there are so many inventive minds in here. Has anyone create a fishing line winder (from spool to any reel), and then from reel back to spool (especially for fly line cleaning/dressing)?

Mash 3 things into one, with a line counter on top of that:

Inline counter is pretty cheap, designed for rods and stations. Great to know how much line I actually put onto my reels.

It beats rolling them around two long holding area to straighten out the lines. Good for respooling lines to prevent/eliminate bird's nest effect, especially the braided lines. I'm still looking for a method to mount a large kite spool onto the station to reduce the memory issue.

Leo;; several years ago;; I saw something kind of like this.  but it was a kids tricycle front wheel;; tire removed!!  mounted on some wood block;; had a pipe for a axle;; to spin on;  and with the pedal;; it was hand  cranked.    give you any ideas buddy??

That sounds about right. But that's still way too bulky. Streamlining..and adding extra options, such as fly tying mount onto the board as well. Did some drawing last night for schematic, but still pounding ideas out.

the one pictured is for fly line.unless you use double tapered fly line only one end is castable.these rigs are used to carefully un spool the line and straighten it out.you can see in the pick the backing is either coming off or going on the reel.when you put line on a fly reel the backing goes on first.then the running part of the fly line so the forward casting part is the first part tat comes off the reel.these are used to keep things in order.when my braid gets beat up i just transfer line yo a different spool so the section i have been fishing with gets buried at the bottom and the line i am now using "new" line.

Jim, planning on creating a multi-purpose tool for all types of reels. I have yet to see any design that allows you to respool the line back onto the main/empty spool, so you can fix the issue with the bird's nest/tangling/straightening issue from the reel's spool. Respooling by hand from reel to the main spool is a daunting task, where the line gets clumped up all over the place. I plan on installing a guide that allows the main spool to be rotated backwards, as the guide neatly direct the line onto the spool. Thus, ideas from inventive minds like yours is much appreciated. Something of a first unique design to post into BBG as the BBG Swiss Fishing Tools.

if you put line on correctly you should not have any memory or twisting.unless you are using low quality or old line.most twist comes from reeling while the fish is taking line or when mono gets stretched from fighting lots of fish or fighting large fish on light line.if you fight large fish on light line and they take a lot of line change your line often.buy bulk spools way cheaper.when a fish is taking line let your drag do its job.dont reel in.you cant gain any line by reeling against the drag all you are doing is twisting and straining your line.engage the bail by hand,especially with braid.braid has to be put on carefully.some mono backing.not alot and must be put on TIGHT.if your having trouble have your local tackle shop do it,line is the most important thing besides a hook.i have seen people fish with a beer bottle,line and a hook.and fish pretty well.spend 100s on a rod and reel.without line its just a fancy stick.sorry for the rant but nothing gets me going more than fishing with some one who is fouling their line all day

You nailed everything on the head Jim, especially the ensuring of the line nice and tight onto the reel's spool. Pet peeve of mine. Learn from years of bird's nesting issue using bait casters. Loose line, and spend more hours on the lines than fishing.

However, just like you, it's not I who fish. I have a family, extended families, and friends who borrowed, and continue to borrow my gears. Thus, the tools designed are primarily for them, and of course, saving me the sanity in dealing with the craziness as well once the days are over. I purchase spools of mono, between 800yd to 3000yd, moderate-low end. They're cheap, so, yes, I purchased them by the giant spools, and replace when needed to: Trilene XT, Cajun Red Line, Spider, and indulged myself with Power Pro and Maxima. At times, I grinned while handling over my valuable braided line rigs to beginners because I ran out of rookie's gears. I'm one of those organizing freaks, who need to straighten things out, even when there's only a bit of twists here and there, to ensure optimal functionality. Not sure if it's my OCD from disciplinary background, or it's just my envision to see things all pan out properly.
