Do you love big bluegill?
....where you just want to slap your head and scream, "D'Oh!!!!"
I had that happen to me earlier this morning. I've been tying those foxtail jigs. Last night, I re-read an article in In-Fisherman about hair jigs.
This morning, some things finally clicked. I've got a good idea with the jigs, but I need to do one thing different, and they will REALLY look good. A split-thread dubbing for the hair, instead of just binding a clump to the hook shank.
Then, lightning struck a second time. I've been dressing my own treble hooks for my in-line spinners. I've never been able to truly pack a lot of marabou onto the hook, or, at least as much as I wanted to pack onto the hook. Again, a split-thread dubbing technique will do it.
Lightning struck a third time. I've been using the size 3 spinner I've got, with a chartreuse-dressed treble. The marabou is beginning to fade and weather. Time to cut everything off and tie up another one. Why not use the foxtail instead of marabou, and use a split-thread dubbing???
Heck, if this really takes off like I'm thinking, I may have to build the jig to start making my own dubbing brushes......

Ha! Ha! I know what you mean, but at least it struck you three times. Can you post a photo? Ain't nice when the light goes on once in awhile?
I just tied up a couple jigs. It needs work, although it does make the fur stand out more.
