Fishing Past Shore Angler - Lies of the 1600's

Old bank fishing party. The center of attention, holding the whip pole is being poured wine, having his catch prepared by the fire and about to weave a yarn about his prowess as a mighty angler. You can see in the background, the devil is lying in waiting, getting ready for the fishing lies that are about to unfold.
This angler probably had little do do with the catch, had his servants prepare everything prior to fishing and might have had little to do with the catch - not how the story will be told most likely.

I have a stack of books from auction I have to get into. One is from the 1700's.

The illustrations are to die for. One thing I would say, is much of fishing information has not made over here or has been lost by fishing quackery invented between 1920 - 1980's - things are starting to turn a bit now with the web but it is amazing how poor the fishing tech is except for largemouth bass lures.
