Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

found a new trick today - might be worth remembering!

have you ever  or somebody you fished with-- or some one fishing close to you-- knocked a fishing rod over board??  and its gone for good!!  a good little trick I just learned!!  take a chain metal stringer-  open up all of the hooks on it- except for the main one!! tie it onto you other fishing rod- and try to snag the one lost!!

I am having trouble getting back to you, Carl. There is a block to contact you but nowhere to click to activate . It might be frontier.com because I am sure having a lot of trouble with it lately.

thanks leo!!  I just thought this one idea was good enough to pass along to others!!

Will keep this in mind, and definitely give it a try when my rod(s) go overboard. Like Allen, I have all my spare rods tethered onto the float tube for kayak. But, of course, the main rod is always untethered. I'm knocking on everything to make sure my rods don't become part of Davy Jone's locker, but, I will make sure to have a recovery tool to find my rod(s) when Murphy's Law kicks in.

allen; I guess I try to prepare ;; like you to buddy!  but I also believe in -- murphy's law!! any thing can - and will go wrong!   working in construction like I have- ive also found out another rule-- anything man made; can and will break- at any given time- for no reason!

Yeah, but I try my darndest to not rely on "luck".  I like to say that I don't believe in luck, I believe in skill.

I also believe in being prepared.  Which is why I have some simple rod leashes on my kayak, just a couple feet of para-cord, with a loop at the end, and a small carabiner clip in the loop.  I just attach the clip to the spinning reel where it attaches to the rod, or wrap the line in a loop around that part, and clip the line.

I've lost two rods overboard while in my kayak.  The first one was while I was trying to unhook a fish.  I heard the splash, realized immediately what had just happened.  The lure was still floating just outside my reach, and before I could grab it, that too took a nose-dive.  I thought it was gone for good.  Only after I released the fish, and started to paddle, did I realize my rod-leash was still hooked to the pole.  I just pulled on that line and recovered my rod.

Second was on the same lake a week or so later.  I had my UL rig in the boat with me.  It has a really short handle, and just doesn't really fit into the rod-holders of my kayak.  I heard a splash, turned around, and just saw the tip of my float going under.  It was only in about 5 - 6 FOW.  A couple hours later, I paddled over to my van, swapped out gear for a catfish rod, rigged that for snagging, and paddled over to where I lost it.  10 minutes later, I had my UL rig back.

And almost every fisherman has at least one of these stringers.
