Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I need help and you guys now ur stuff

Im 14 and im a big fisher. I fish as much as possible whenever. In about a week im leaving to go to trout lake in ny. Great place and lots of fish. Croppies, bluegill, sunfish, trout, lake salmon most of the popular panfish. Im hoping to be catching lots of blue gill to eat. Ive never really done this before but i have read a bunch of articles and tips on doing it. When im there its fretilizing time for the males so they will be aggersive. I no i have to reel slow and be quiet all the basics but im not really sure about the bait and lures to use. I have squrimin squrits which i herd work well but also like corn and crikets as live or food bait. I need tips on wat works best off a dock about 7 to 10 foot deep water with some vegitation and i have a great place to fish along a pretty deep coast. PLEASE COMMENT.

Hey Max...these guys gave you some great advice. The only thing I might add is to try fishing early and then again late in the day. Sometimes there are insect hatches that come off during these times and sunfish and other panfish take advantage of these hatches and feed heavy. Good Luck and let us know how you do!

Use slip bobber, size 6 hook, and live worm is good way to start! Set up about 5 feet for between 7 and 10 feet deep and let your bait down to near weeds or any tree in shade! You would catch bass or any fish while you fish for bluegills! Use minnows on the same slip bobber for crappie and bass! Don't fish one spot too long! If nothing for over 15 minutes then move! Fish don't come to you so you go after them!

Hey Max,

Sounds like you are gonna have a great trip! Bill gave some really good advice. You are going to be a lot farther North than I am, but I bet it can still get pretty warm during the day. Down here in Oklahoma when the weather is very hot, or it is the middle of the day, we will just use a small bobber, a split shot and juicy piece of worm on a small, long-shanked hook. If you want to go "old school" you could use a cane pole or cut a willow switch, but your regular fishing pole will work fine.

For me, in the heat of the day, a big shade tree that leans out over the water is the best place (shade for you, shade for the fish, everybody is happy). The bigger fish seem to hang out right at the edge of the shade, but anywhere under the tree will work. If you want to do a test to see if there are any fish under the tree you pick, shake a few branches real hard. Any bugs not holding on tight will fall in the water and be scarffed by fish pretty quick! This is a clue to a great fishing spot.

Good luck and have fun!

Max....it sounds like good spoon water, try a 1/10 oz Swedish Pimple...use the single hook...thread on a squirmin squirt...trim the tail back a bit, and throw it at 'em from the dock.....reel it in slow with an occasional pause....you'll be surprised!
