Is a 55lb thrust trolling motor big enough to be the main motor for a 12ft jon boat?

Yeah it should be more than enough probably. Not sure about the battery though.

i would try wal mart for the battery, prices are low and have a really easy exchange and warranty at any wal mart. so if you have any issue you can stop at any location and leave with a new battery.
